Draw a service area on the map

Trace a property on a satellite map to auto-calculate its square footage for a service line.

Measuring a property by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. CleanOps lets you trace the area right on a satellite map and works out the square footage for you, then drops it straight into your pricing. Use it for anything you price by the square foot — roofs, lawns, driveways, decks, and more.

Before you start: sign in with an account that can manage quotes (an operator/employer account), and open a quote, job, invoice, or service request that has a job address. You’ll add a Sq. Ft. service line, which is where the map opens from.

Open the map from a line item

Add a service line and set its Unit to Sq. Ft. A small map icon labeled Draw area on map appears next to Quantity — select it to open the map. (The icon only shows for Sq. Ft. lines.)

Find your way around

The Draw Area on Map window opens on a satellite view, centered on the job’s address. The toolbar along the bottom has the Polygon tool selected for you; Pan lets you drag the map and the zoom buttons (top-left) move you closer or further. The Area readout sits in the bottom-left corner.

Trace the property outline

With the Polygon tool selected, click each corner of the area you’re measuring — the outline fills in as you go. As soon as you place three or more points, the Area readout shows the calculated size. Large areas appear in acres (here, 1.22 acres); smaller ones appear in sq ft.

Save the area to your line

Select Save in the top-right. The window closes and the measured size fills the line’s Quantity, with a green Calculated from map note beneath it. The line’s amount (Quantity × your price) updates automatically. Closing the window with the X (top-left) instead discards your unsaved drawing — select Save to keep it.

Edit a saved area

To change an area you already saved, select the Draw area on map icon again. The window reopens with your outline in place, zoomed to fit it, and a red Delete button now in the top-right.

Add or remove points

To remove a corner, select Erase and click the point — the outline and Area recalculate immediately (removing one corner here drops the area to 40,866 sq ft). To add a corner, switch back to Polygon and click where you want it. Undo reverses your last change.

Change the markup color

Select the colored circle in the toolbar to choose a different color for your markups — eight colors are available. This applies to the markup tools in Step 9, not the area outline itself.

Change the line thickness

Select the Stroke width button (the line icon next to the color circle) to choose how thick your markup lines are — four thicknesses are available.

Add measurements, pins, and notes

Beyond the area outline, the toolbar offers markup tools: Measure draws a line and labels its length in feet, Pin drops a location marker, Draw is freehand, Arrow points something out, and Text adds a label. Select a tool, then draw on the map — your markups save alongside the area.

Delete a saved area

To clear a saved area, reopen the window and select Delete (top-right). Confirm Delete all polygon and annotation data? This will clear the area measurement. — the saved outline, your markups, and the Calculated from map note are removed. The number itself stays in Quantity (it now counts as a manually entered value), so edit or clear it by hand if you no longer want it. To start over without leaving the map, use Clear all in the toolbar instead (it asks Clear all polygon and annotation data?).
Where you can draw an area
- Across the app: the Draw area on map icon appears on Sq. Ft. lines wherever you price work — quotes, jobs, invoices, and service requests.
- A different location: the map always opens on the job’s address. To measure somewhere else, change the Job Address on the form before opening the map, or use Pan and the zoom buttons to move the view.
- Prefer to type it? You never have to use the map — just enter the Quantity by hand instead. See create a quote.
Result

Your service line now carries a real measured area, marked Calculated from map — more accurate and faster than estimating by eye, and it flows straight into the line’s price and your quote total.
Tips & related
- The map icon only appears on Sq. Ft. lines — switch the Unit to Sq. Ft. if you don’t see it.
- Areas of an acre or more show in acres; smaller areas show in sq ft.
