Create a segment

Build a saved, auto-updating group of customers or leads to target with marketing campaigns.

segments marketing audience customers leads targeting

A segment is a saved group of customers or leads you can target with marketing campaigns. Choose who belongs by setting filters — location, services, spend, lead status, and more — and CleanOps keeps the membership up to date as your data changes.

Before you start: sign in with an account that can manage marketing (an operator/employer account).

  1. 1

    Open the Segments page

In the left navigation, open Marketing and select Segments. The page lists every segment you’ve built, with its Audience size, Audience Type, Location, and linked Campaigns. If you haven’t created one yet, you’ll see No segments yet with a button to create your first.

  2. 2

    Start a new segment

Select New Segment in the top right. The Add New Segment form opens. Under General Info, enter a Segment Name (required) and an optional Description — the counter keeps it within 255 characters.

  3. 3

    Set the location

Under Location, narrow the segment to an area: enter a City, choose a State / Province / Region, add a Postal / ZIP Code, and pick a Country. Drag the Coverage radius slider (or type a value in miles) to include everyone within that distance. Every location field is optional — leave them blank to ignore location.

  4. 4

Choose an audience and add filters

Under Audience Type, keep Customers selected to build the segment from your customer list. Add any Service Details filters — tap a Surfaces chip (SIDING, PATIO, ROOF, CONCRETE, DECK, DRIVEWAY), set a Summary Area range in sq.ft, or pick a Complexity (Low, Medium, High). Under Finances and Time, narrow by Average Receipt, Average Duration, and a Jobs Period date range. Add only the filters you need — each one makes the audience more specific.

  5. 5

    Save the segment

Select Save Segment. CleanOps shows Segment saved. and the new segment appears at the top of the list with its computed Audience size.

  6. 6

    Open your segment

Select the segment’s name to open its detail page. The Segment Info card recaps your filters, and the cards along the top show the Audience count and either Total Revenue (customers) or Conversion (leads). When members have a mapped address they appear on the map; otherwise you see No mapped locations yet.

  7. Manage a segment from the Actions menu

The Actions menu at the top right of the detail page is where you manage a segment: Edit its filters, Duplicate it as a starting point for a similar one, Archive it to hide it without deleting, or Delete it for good. An archived segment shows Unarchive here instead. The same actions appear as icons on each row of the Segments list.

  8. 7

Grow the audience by widening your filters

If the Audience count is 0 or smaller than expected, your filters are too narrow. Select Actions → Edit, remove the filters that are excluding people — for example clear the surfaces, complexity, or a tight coverage radius — and select Save Changes. CleanOps recomputes membership immediately; here the audience grows to 8 and the matching members appear on the map.

  9. 8

    Build a Leads segment instead

To target sales leads rather than customers, set Audience Type to Leads. The filters change to the lead pipeline: Status (New, Contacted, Scheduled, Qualified, Unqualified, Lost), Source, and Next Action. Open the Status dropdown and check the stages to include, fill in the rest, and select Save Segment just as before.

  10. What a Leads segment shows

A Leads segment’s detail page swaps the Total Revenue card for a Conversion rate, and the Segment Info card lists your Status, Source, and Next Action filters. Leads usually have no mapped address, so the map shows No mapped locations yet even when the audience count is high.

  11. Customers vs Leads — two different filter sets

The two audience types expose completely different filters. Customers filter by location, Surfaces, Complexity, Summary Area, Average Receipt, Average Duration, and Jobs Period. Leads filter by Status, Source (Referral, Phone, Website, Ads, Door Knocking), Next Action (Contact lead, Schedule visit), Creation period, and Next step period. Switching the Audience Type swaps the whole lower half of the form.

  12. 9

    Find a segment with search

Back on the Segments page, type into Search segments by name… to filter the list as you type.

  13. Filter the list

The Date, Audience, and Location filters above the list narrow it further — for example choose Customers or Leads under Audience, then select Apply. They work alongside the search box.

  14. 10

    Archive or delete in bulk

Select the checkbox on one or more rows to reveal the bulk bar showing N selected. Choose Archive selected to hide them or Delete selected to remove them for good. You can also act on a single segment with the Edit, Duplicate, Archive, and Delete icons in its Actions column. A segment used by an active campaign can’t be deleted — archive it instead.

  15. Show archived segments

Tick Show archived to include archived segments in the list. Their Actions offer Unarchive (the restore icon) instead of Archive, so you can bring one back at any time.

  16. Your segment is ready

Your segment is saved and its membership is computed and kept current. You can now use it as the audience for a campaign, check its size and map any time, and refine its filters as your customer base grows.

  17. Tips & related

    • Build the segment broad first, check the Audience count, then tighten the filters — it’s easier than guessing.
    • Duplicate a segment when you want a variation without rebuilding every filter.
    • Archive is reversible and keeps the record; Delete is permanent and is blocked while an active campaign uses the segment.
    • Next steps: send a one-time campaign or build an automation to this segment.
